Bimetallic thermometers are thermometers that convert the deformation of a bimetallic plate that occurs when the temperature changes into the readings of the device. Unlike liquid thermometers, bimetallic thermometers are completely insensitive to changes in external pressure and are mechanically more durable. They are used in a very wide temperature range.
The principle of operation of bimetallic thermometers is based on the fact that a strip of two plates of metals with different expansion coefficients (bimetal) rolled together with each other bends when the temperature changes.
